Phil Berry Jr., M.D.

Dr. Berry, born in Jackson, Mississippi, attended the University of Mississippi where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He attended the University of Mississippi Medical School obtaining his medical degree in 1966.

While in medical school at the University of Mississippi he served as class president for three years and was student body president his senior year. He served as President of Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society as well.

He completed his internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1971. After his residency, he joined the staff of Methodist Medical Center and became active in numerous medical societies and organizations. He was a member of the Dallas County Medical Society Board of Directors between 1986 and 1988, serving as president of the society in 1990. In 1996, he was recipient of the Max Cole Leadership Award.

In addition, he has been active in the Texas Medical Association (TMA) serving as President in 1997. He has received the prestigious Benjamin Rush Award from the AMA for outstanding citizen efforts for organ donation, and has served at HHS on the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation. The TMA bestowed the Distinguished Service Award on Dr. Berry in 2004, the highest award given to a physician in the state of Texas.

Dr. Berry has been in active practice at Methodist Dallas Medical Center since 1971, and his areas of specialization  has focused on hip and knee reconstructive surgery, particularly using the anterior approach to hip replacement.

He is active in Cliff Temple Baptist Church, where he has served as deacon chairman for four years. He and his wife, Karen, of 43 years, have 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren, the light of their lives.
